Hosted by Professor Lisa Sachs of the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment and The Columbia Climate School
Professor Ulrich Volz of the University of London, Department of Economics, and the Center for Sustainable Finance will deliver his talk on Monday, April 28th, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Reversing the Vicious Circle of Debt, Underdevelopment, and Environmental Change
This seminar examines how climate vulnerability and nature loss create a vicious circle in which developing countries face higher sovereign risk, rising capital costs, and decreasing fiscal space for investment. It subsequently discusses ways of enhancing investment in resilience and sustainable development to reverse this process and create a virtuous circle.
Ulrich Volz is Professor of Economics and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Finance at SOAS, University of London. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability, Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. He has acted as an advisor to numerous governments, central banks, international organisations, and development agencies on matters of macroeconomic policy, climate risk and sustainable finance, and financial sector development.
