These nine LL.M. students want to change the world.

Ibrahim Diallo ’20 led the effort to have all incoming students read “Devil in the Grove,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning book about a landmark 1940s civil rights case—and then invited the author to campus to discuss its relevance for today.

Orientation for the J.D. Class of 2021 and LL.M. Class of 2019 included talks from faculty and peer mentors and festive lunches and dinners.

Tess Dernbach ’19 and Laura Keeley ’19 drafted an amicus brief on behalf of former Congressman Henry Waxman in an important case against the EPA.

These 2018 graduates are pursuing social justice and human rights careers in Asia, Australia, Latin America, and the United States.

On May 14, J.D. and LL.M. students from the Class of 2018 had their graduation, with former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson ’82 delivering the keynote.

“It’s important for civilian and military communities to talk to each other directly,” said Professor Matthew Waxman, who is leading the effort to cultivate institutional ties.
