William Sharon

William Sharon is an appellate and Supreme Court litigator at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP. He writes and argues motions and appellate briefs in federal and state courts around the country, and he represents clients in the U.S. Supreme Court at both the certiorari and merits stages. His practice regularly involves landmark civil rights cases and cases involving the First Amendment’s religion clauses.

In addition to practicing and teaching, Wil researches and writes about issues of law and religion. His most recent scholarship, Religious and Secular Comparators, 30 Geo. Mason L. Rev. 763 (2023), analyzes the Supreme Court’s Free Exercise Clause jurisprudence.

Wil clerked for Judges Scott M. Matheson, Jr. on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and Pamela K. Chen on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Wil graduated from Columbia Law School as a James Kent Scholar and Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. While in law school, he was a Notes Editor on the Columbia Journal of Race and Law. He received his undergraduate degree from Ohio State University.
