Sumi Cho

Sumi Cho joins the Columbia faculty after teaching Critical Race Theory, Race, Racism & U.S. Law, Employment Discrimination, and other traditional law courses for 25 years at DePaul University College of Law. She speaks frequently on affirmative action, employment and educational discrimination, intersectionality, and critical race theory.

After her first retirement from the legal academy, she was recruited to serve as Director of Strategic Initiatives at the African American Policy Forum, where she addresses how the current attacks on anti-racism and the freedom to learn represent a crisis of multiracial democracy.

Professor Cho holds a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies as well as a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. She has served as a distinguished visiting scholar at Bayreuth University in Germany and as a visiting professor at the University of Michigan and University of Iowa law schools.
