Section Description
More than 100 million Americans rely on registered funds, such as mutual funds and exchange-traded funds, to achieve their financial goals, which contributes to registered funds holding nearly a third of our country’s equity securities and a quarter of its bonds. This makes registered funds a constructive example of where Wall Street meets Main Street.
This seminar explores how registered funds became a fixture of American finance and considers whether the regulatory framework for registered funds – the Investment Company Act of 1940 – played a role in the process. In asking this question, we will consider the manner in which the ’40 Act was created, the substantive requirements it places on registered funds, how registered funds are sold to investors and how the Securities and Exchange Commission regulates registered funds.
