Section Description
This course will analyze the procedural rules that apply to the various critical stages of a federal criminal case -- including bail, grand jury, discovery, pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing – and the case authority interpreting those rules. The analysis and class discussion also will focus on the policies underpinning the rules, potential reforms to the rules, and strategies used by federal prosecutors and defense attorneys to most effectively utilize the rules in the context of criminal cases.
