Section 001 Information
Section Description
This externship is designed to give you the opportunity to apply your theoretical and doctrinal
knowledge of law in an applied setting while further developing your lawyering skills. The program
combines fieldwork in a wide variety of settings, including government agencies, not-for-profit legal
services organizations (non-governmental organizations, or NGOs), community lawyering
organizations, and businesses, with a weekly seminar designed to build the professional and legal skills
that will assist you as you perform and observe externship fieldwork. Seminar activities will consist of
lectures, discussions, simulations, oral presentations and written assignments. Your fieldwork
experiences will serve as the narrative for these activities, in which, subject to workplace confidentiality
restrictions, you will share your observations and discuss the issues and problems that develop in your
field placements.
